Lola Just Built the Kind of Supercar Modern Cars Forgot How to Be

Modern cars have started to feel a bit distant from the driver. Lola Cars looked at that and decided to bring things back to something more direct.
After coming back in 2024 for Formula E, the British brand is now working on a proper throwback. A limited-run supercar inspired by the old T70, but updated just enough to make it usable today. You get two versions, one for the road and one that does not care about license plates at all.

The road car is the T70S GT. It runs a 6.2-liter naturally aspirated V8 with 500 hp and 455 lb-ft (617 Nm), paired with a six-speed manual sending power to the rear wheels. No tricks, no hybrid boost, just engine and gearbox. Lola says it will do 0–62 mph (100 km/h) in 2.9 seconds and hit 200 mph (322 km/h), which is serious pace for something this old-school.

Then there is the T70S, the track-only version. It swaps in a 5.0-liter naturally aspirated Chevrolet V8 with 530 hp and 425 lb-ft. It is even more focused, using a period-style transaxle like the original 1960s car. It is quicker too, 0–62 mph (100 km/h) in 2.5 seconds and a 203 mph (326 km/h) top speed.

The real story, though, is the weight. Lola kept things extremely light. The GT comes in at just 1,962 lbs (890 kg), and the track car drops to 1,895 lbs (860 kg). That is thanks to a new chassis made from plant-based and basalt fibers, plus a resin derived from sugarcane. It looks and feels like carbon fiber, just without the usual materials.

Inside, it is exactly what you would expect. Stripped back, focused, nothing extra. The GT gets climate control, and that is about as luxurious as it goes.

Only 16 units will be built, and pricing has not been announced yet. Not that it really matters. Cars like this are less about spec sheets and more about the idea behind them!
