Lexus Recalls 4,400 LX 600 SUVs Over Transmission Software Issue

It really does feel like recalls are popping up every other week lately, and now Lexus is back on the list. This time it involves the Lexus LX 600, the brand’s flagship SUV.
Toyota has flagged around 4,400 LX 600 models in the US from the 2025 and 2026 model years due to a potential software issue in the 10-speed automatic transmission. According to the company, the glitch could cause internal damage within the gearbox.

The exact failure process has not been detailed, but the problem may lead to a loss of drive at higher speeds. In some cases, it could also result in a transmission fluid leak, which raises the risk of a fire.
This marks the fourth recall affecting the current-generation LX 600 since it launched for the 2022 model year. Earlier problems included machining debris in the 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 engine that could cause severe engine damage or even total failure.
There was also an issue where the stability control system did not automatically default to the “on” position when the vehicle was restarted.

For this latest recall, dealers will install updated software for the transmission control unit at no cost to owners. Lexus says affected customers will be notified by late April.
Well, for a flagship SUV that’s supposed to represent the best the brand can offer, this kind of issue doesn’t look good.
That said, at least the fix appears to be software-based rather than a full mechanical teardown. Still, four recalls in a relatively short time is not something any luxury brand wants attached to its flagship.
