Kia’s First Pickup Is Having a Rough Start in Australia
by AutoExpert | 29 April, 2026
Kia’s first pickup hasn’t really taken off in Australia, and that’s a tough place to stumble. This is Ranger and HiLux territory. If you don’t land right, you get ignored.
Kia was chasing 20,000 units a year. In March, they sold only 399. That tells you everything. Ranger and HiLux both pushed past 4,000 in the same month, and even the D-Max and Triton are well ahead.

Yeah, the design gets blamed a lot. It looks different, and not everyone’s into it. But Kia isn’t backing down or rushing a facelift.
From their side, the issue is more about who’s buying it. Right now, it’s mostly loyal Kia owners using it as a lifestyle truck. Beach runs, daily stuff, that kind of thing. That part’s fine.

The problem is the other half of the market. Fleets, farmers, regional buyers. That’s where the real volume sits, and that’s where the Tasman isn’t getting through. Those buyers stick with what they know, and brands like Toyota and Ford have built that trust over the years.

The simple truth is, in this segment, looks don’t matter much. People want something tough, proven, and easy to live with.
Sadly, the Kia Tasman hasn’t convinced them yet.
