Inside Ferrari’s Luce: Jony Ive Designs A High-Tech, Tactile EV Interior

Ferrari’s EV debut takes a different route. Instead of going full digital, the Luce puts the driver first, bringing back physical controls and a more hands-on, old-school feel. Designed by Jony Ive and Marc Newson’s LoveFrom studio, it keeps the soul of a Ferrari alive while embracing electrons.
The Luce leans heavily on physical controls: real buttons, toggles, and rotary switches, all carefully tuned over 20 rounds of testing for the perfect feel and click. Even the launch control switch sits overhead, aircraft-style, giving the whole interior a playful pilot vibe.

The steering wheel nods to the 1960s with three slim spokes, exposed aluminum, and a layout lifted straight from classic Formula One cars. It’s lighter than usual but packed with finger controls for everything you need.

Behind it, Ferrari teamed with Samsung Display to craft a layered OLED instrument cluster that, at a glance, feels almost analog, complete with a physical needle sweeping across digital graphics. The style borrows cues from both historic Ferraris and aviation instruments.

Gone is the SF90’s touchy start button. Here, firing up the Luce is a ritual. Insert the chunky glass key, watch the color shift, and see the drive selector light up in a mini light show. It’s Ferrari’s way of making an everyday drive feel epic.
