Ford’s Rough Start To 2026 Gets Worse In April
by AutoExpert | 5 May, 2026
When the numbers keep dropping month after month, it stops feeling like a rough patch.
That’s where Ford is right now. They entered 2026 already down 8.8 percent after Q1, and April only made things worse with a 14.4 percent drop. Ford and Lincoln together sold 178,667 vehicles, and there isn’t a single area clearly holding things up. Well, almost.

The Mustang is the exception. It climbed nearly 20 percent in April and is up almost 40 percent for the year, with 19,904 units sold so far. In April alone, it moved 5,830 cars. It’s now the only traditional car Ford sells in the US, and right now, it’s carrying more weight than expected.

Everything else is sliding. Electrified models dropped 31.1 percent, with EVs down 24.8 percent and hybrids down 32.5 percent. Gas models didn’t help much either, falling 11.8 percent. Trucks are down 12.1 percent this year, SUVs 10.9 percent, and Ford overall sits at a 10.6 percent decline. The Mach-E shows how tough things are, down 8.8 percent in April and 50 percent year to date, with 7,270 units sold.

A few models are still moving up. Bronco gained 18.6 percent, Transit 22 percent, Explorer just 1 percent, and heavy-duty trucks 7.4 percent. Most of the lineup is down, including the Ranger at minus 25.1 percent. Lincoln doesn’t change the picture much either, down 7.4 percent for the year and 21.4 percent in April, with only the Nautilus posting growth.
