Diesel Isn’t Going Anywhere At Stellantis

Stellantis is bringing diesel back, at least in Europe. After seeing renewed demand from customers, the company has decided to keep diesel engines in the mix and even expand availability across several brands.
Opel, Peugeot, and Citroën will once again offer diesel options in parts of their lineups. In an official statement, Stellantis said it has chosen to maintain diesel in its product portfolio and, in some cases, widen the range of engines available.

Other brands under the Stellantis umbrella aren’t dropping diesel either. Models like the Alfa Romeo Tonale, Giulia, and Stelvio, along with the DS 7, will continue to offer diesel variants.
According to the company, the move comes down to listening to buyers. Stellantis says it wants to drive growth and respond directly to customer demand, and right now, in parts of Europe, that demand still includes diesel.
The timing is notable. Stellantis recently reported losses of more than €22 billion, making the push to meet market demand even more important. For now, it looks like diesel still has a role to play in the group’s European strategy.
