Buick Electra L7 Goes Fully Electric With 378 HP

Buick’s transformation in China keeps getting more serious. What was once known mostly for soft sedans and comfortable crossovers is quickly turning into a full-blown EV and hybrid brand, and the latest example is the fully electric version of the Electra L7.
The sedan already exists in China as a range-extender model, pairing a small turbocharged gasoline engine with an electric drivetrain for buyers who still want the reassurance of fuel backup. This new version drops the engine entirely and goes fully electric, targeting the growing number of Chinese buyers who have already moved past range anxiety altogether.

It’s a big car, too. The Electra L7 stretches just over five meters long with a three-meter wheelbase, putting it firmly into large sedan territory. Underneath sits an 800-volt architecture supporting ultra-fast 6C charging, meaning the battery can theoretically charge at six times its capacity rate. Buick has not released full battery details yet, but the company says range should exceed 435 miles on China’s testing cycle. Power comes from a single electric motor producing 378 hp.

Visually, Buick has not tried to reinvent the car for the EV version. It looks nearly identical to the range-extender model, complete with slim lighting, flush door handles, LiDAR mounted on the roof, and smooth surfacing throughout. The design will not shock anyone, but that might actually be intentional. In a market full of aggressively futuristic EVs, the Electra L7 feels more restrained and mature.

Inside, things are much more screen-focused. A 10.25-inch digital cluster sits ahead of the driver, while a large 15.6-inch infotainment display dominates the dashboard. Wireless charging pads, metallic speaker grilles, and upscale materials help give the cabin a more premium feel. Pricing for the electric version has not been announced yet, though the existing range-extender model currently starts at around $25,600 in China.
