800-HP V12 Hybrid Rumored For Toyota Century Coupe Production Model
by AutoExpert | 10 February, 2026
The Toyota Century Coupe is moving closer to production. New reports from Japan say Toyota plans to drop the expected V8 and use a V12 plug-in hybrid instead, with output said to exceed 800 horsepower.
If true, it would continue the Century tradition of using exclusive powertrains and position the coupe as a true flagship rather than a conventional luxury model. Wild on paper, sure, but it actually lines up with the Century’s history. For years, the model quietly ran its own V12, built for smoothness and dignity.

Where this new engine would come from is still a mystery. There’s been some loose talk about BMW connections, but that feels like a stretch. The Century has always done things its own way, and borrowing a rival’s engine would kind of miss the point.

More important is the mindset behind the car. This isn’t Toyota trying to out-flex Bentley or Rolls-Royce. The goal seems to be a calm, ultra-luxury flagship that blends serious power with the kind of long-term reliability Toyota is known for, something that’s oddly rare in this space.

The final design should stay close to the concept, though a few over-the-top details will likely be toned down. Inside, the strange two-seat layout is expected to give way to a more usable four-seat cabin. Pricing will be steep, easily into six-figure territory.

If everything stays on track, the car should arrive around 2027, timed with the 60th anniversary of the Century name. While Japan is the main focus, it wouldn’t be shocking if Toyota eventually looked overseas too.
