The 2027 Corvette Stingray Just Became a 200-MPH Bargain

The Corvette has spent years being called a bargain supercar, but the 2027 Stingray now has a new claim to fame. You no longer need a six-figure budget to buy a 200-mph car. The 2027 Stingray gets there for $73,495.
Chevrolet announced the news on National Corvette Day, revealing that the Stingray is now 6 mph faster than before. It even has a higher top speed than the track-focused Z06 and trails only the 233-mph ZR1 in the current Corvette family. The 200-mph run was completed in a standard narrow-body 1LT Coupe on a closed course.

The extra speed comes from a new engine. Chevrolet has replaced the 6.2-liter LT2 with a naturally aspirated 6.7-liter LS6 V8 producing 535 hp and 520 lb-ft of torque. That's an increase of 45 hp and 55 lb-ft, while a 13.0:1 compression ratio is the highest ever used in a production Corvette. Power still goes to the rear wheels through an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission.

The Stingray is quicker off the line as well. It now reaches 60 mph in 2.8 seconds, cutting 0.2 seconds off the previous car, and completes the quarter-mile in 11 seconds flat at 124 mph. For comparison, the next cheapest 200-mph car is the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing, which costs close to $100,000. A Porsche 911 Turbo S also reaches 200 mph but starts at $270,300.

The timing is fitting, as the announcement came 73 years after the first production Corvette rolled off the line in Flint, Michigan. That original C1 topped out at 105 mph. Seven decades later, its descendant has nearly doubled that figure while still costing less than many luxury SUVs. That's quite a family upgrade.
