India’s Affordable Tata Tiago Hatchback Gets A Major Redesign
by AutoExpert | 22 May, 2026
Small, affordable hatchbacks rarely get much attention anymore, especially in markets increasingly obsessed with SUVs. But in India, cars like the Tata Tiago still matter a lot, and Tata seems determined to keep its smallest model from feeling outdated.
The company has previewed the heavily updated 2026 Tiago and Tiago.EV ahead of their full reveal on May 28. Officially, Tata calls it a new generation. Realistically, it is a deep redesign of the existing car, though the visual changes are substantial enough that most people probably will not care what label gets attached to it.

The new front end is much sharper than before, with slimmer headlights, cleaner surfacing, and styling that feels more modern and less budget-focused. The electric Tiago.EV adopts a smoother, closed-off fascia, helping separate it visually from the gasoline version. Around the back, redesigned taillights and a cleaner bumper finish the makeover, while new wheels and extra black trim help disguise the car’s age from the side profile.

Tata has not fully shown the cabin yet, but improvements are expected across the board. Larger screens, upgraded materials, redesigned seats, and features like a 360-degree camera should help the Tiago feel closer to the company’s newer models. Reports also suggest six airbags could become standard, which would be a meaningful upgrade in this segment.

Underneath, the formula stays familiar. Petrol, CNG, and fully electric versions will continue, keeping the Tiago accessible to a wide range of buyers. And accessibility really is the key here. Even today, the outgoing Tiago starts at under $4,800 in India, while the Tiago.EV ($8,300) remains one of the cheapest electric cars on sale anywhere in the world.
