Toyota Hyper-F Concept Transforms Fortuner Into High-Performance Off-Road Marvel

The Fortuner subframe recently served as the foundation for the Toyota Hyper-F Concept. Presented during the 2024 Bangkok Auto Salon, the off-roader underwent extensive modifications. The Thai company TCD Asia (Toyota Customizing & Development) made radical design changes to the Fortuner concept, giving it a wild appearance.

A huge grille, bigger intakes, a splitter, and a hood with vents all contribute to the front end's airflow. There are also deep side skirts that conceal the exhaust pipes, aftermarket wheels with Dunlop tires, and large fender extensions on the profile.

Meanwhile, a large diffuser and aerodynamic extensions on the fenders and rear spoiler are visible from the back. Inside, there are now four separate bucket seats, rather than the standard Fortuner's three rows and seven seats. To help bring this concept to life, the Japanese firms Mitsui Chemicals and APRK Corporation provided crucial high-tech components.

Take, for example, TAFNEX CF/PP, a carbon-fiber-reinforced polypropylene resin. Nothing is known about the Hyper-F's technological specs, so we don't know what's going on. Still, the company calls it a "high-performance concept car."

Thai customers may now purchase the Fortuner in its sportiest and most powerful trim level, the GR Sport. The Fortuner GR Sport matches the power of the Hilux GR Sport in Australia, boasting a more powerful 2.8-liter turbodiesel that generates 221 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque, along with a more aggressive stance. As a reminder, the most recent Toyota Fortuner made its debut in 2015 and had a redesign in 2020.

Toyota is actively exploring the possibility of manufacturing an SUV under the GR brand; however, the Fortuner, which is built on trucks, is not the best candidate. Utilizing the road-oriented TNGA platform, the Gazoo Racing division is likely to develop an SUV with a stronger emphasis on performance on the road.
