Japanese manufacturer THK, though not a household name, plays a significant role in the automotive componentry landscape. The brand's latest reveal, the THK LSR-05, is set to dazzle attendees at the Japan Mobility Show 2023, showcasing not just compelling design but THK's own cutting-edge electric vehicle (EV) technology.

The LSR-05, where "LSR" stands for luxury, sport, and revolution, is a tribute to THK's 50-year legacy, represented by the number 5. This innovative crossover coupe springs from the creative mind of Shiro Nakamura, the former chief designer at Nissan, now heading the independent studio SN Design Platform.

What makes the LSR-05 catch the eye is its contemporary exterior that seems ready for the road. It flaunts a grille-less fascia, full-width LEDs, finely sculpted fenders, and a sleek Kamm-tail design, among other features. With dimensions mirroring the Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo, it stands taller, making a statement of its own.

Step inside, and the LSR-05 continues to impress with its "stealth seat slide system," allowing for a flat floor, adding a touch of luxury with wooden trim adorning the suicide doors, paired with suede-like upholstery that extends to the dashboard. The interior is dominated by a full-width panel that houses the digital essentials - infotainment touchscreen, digital instrument cluster, and screens replacing traditional mirrors.

Under the sleek bodywork, the LSR-05 houses an 800V electric powertrain, with a tri-motor setup delivering a combined horsepower of 544. The concept introduces us to THK's MR fluid active damper tube, four-wheel-steering, and electric brakes, hinting at the EV's high-tech underpinnings.

THK LSR-05

Though the THK LSR-05 remains a concept, the technologies exhibited are far from whimsical. They hint at a future where such innovations could be integral to EVs rolling out from other manufacturers. THK also plans to unveil a chassis model to give enthusiasts a deeper dive into its electric underpinnings.

THK LSR-05

The THK LSR-05 isn't just a concept car; it's a statement of THK's capabilities and a glimpse into the automotive future, with a touch of design genius from Shiro Nakamura.
