Renault has introduced an exciting concept in Brazil that offers a sneak peek at what's to come by 2027. This concept, known as the Renault Niagara, is a compact pickup with an adventurous spirit, featuring a hybrid 4x4 powertrain called E-Tech.

Gilles Vidal, Renault's Vice President of Design, has noted that the design language of the Niagara concept provides a glimpse into the brand's upcoming international lineup.

The front end of this concept is a departure from Renault's current production models, showcasing futuristic split LED headlights within a wide grille. What's intriguing is that the traditional Renault emblem has given way to illuminated Renault lettering at the center of the grille, while the emblem remains at the rear, placed on full-width LED taillights.

The design embodies the rugged appearance typical of off-road vehicles, accentuated by substantial ground clearance and large wheels. Notably, the wide fenders, side sills, and bumpers appear to be constructed from distinct materials. In a bid to enhance its adventurous appeal, the carmaker has incorporated a roof rack capable of carrying a full-size spare wheel, along with two additional spares at the rear bed.

The Niagara concept is built on Renault's new modular platform, known for its adaptability to different vehicle lengths, body styles, and powertrain options. The concept measures 4.90 meters in length and features a 2.95-meter wheelbase, comfortably positioning it within the compact pickup segment. Under the hood, the concept boasts a self-charging hybrid powertrain, bringing together a 48V mild-hybrid petrol engine at the front and an additional electric motor on the rear axle.

Renault assure that this setup provides off-road capabilities akin to a 4WD system while reducing CO2 emissions thanks to its ability to operate in fully electric mode for a substantial portion of daily driving. The Niagara concept's design will influence the development of eight completely new production models set to debut in international markets by 2027. However, it's still unclear whether the concept will evolve into a production model.
