Polestar 4040 Is A Study Inspired By The Volvo 240

In a very short period of time, Polestar has grown from a small performance division of Volvo to a major contender in the all-electric car market. Polestar has done that by expanding on the design language of modern Volvos while injecting its own energy.

This Polestar 4040 Design concept was created by designer Jordan Rubinstein-Towler, who is responsible for what might be described as a radical spin on the Polestar design language. This vehicle has been envisioned both as a sedan and an estate by Rubinstein-Towler.

One of the first things you'll notice about the idea is its distinctive boxy form. A basic pair of LEDs would work, even if the Polestar 4040 wasn't built with any kind of obvious headlights. The 4040's look from the side is almost as fascinating, with its short front overhang, huge silver and blue wheels, little camera in place of conventional wing mirrors, and the absence of conventional door handles. 

The back is just as daring, with a diffuser, bumperette, LED taillights, and a ducktail lip spoiler continuing the theme from the front. Also worth mentioning is that as a point of departure, Rubinstein-Towler looked to the legendary Volvo 240 Turbo Group A touring cars that competed in the 1980s.
