New Porsche Mission R Is A 1,073 HP Electric Racing Car That Teases A Future Cayman

As part of the Munich Motor Show, Porsche unveiled a coupe that gives us a view into the electrified future of its racecars. Porsche Mission R is a twin-motor, all-wheel-drive coupe based on Cayman. It's developed for client teams and drivers who fight in Porsche's many one-make competitions throughout the world.

Powered by a 429-hp front engine and a 626-hp back engine with oil cooling to reduce power loss, the car has 1,073-hp (1,088 PS) in qualifying trim and 626-hp in racing trim.

In 2.5 seconds, the Mission R goes from 0 to 60mph, and on a straight road, it can achieve speeds of 186 mph (300km/h). The battery (again, oil-cooled) is supposed to last for 30 minutes, which might allow it to finish a sprint race, while the 900-volt technology allows it to be recharged from 5-80% in 15 min, according to the company. It was made plain, though, by Porsche's design chief.

The style of the headlamps, which are originally influenced by Porsche's Boxster, which was debuted precisely 25 years ago, suggests as much, as well. With just a rear wing, a rear diffuser, and a front splitter, it's easy to see how the Mission R may be the next 718 Boxster and Cayman.

We'll likely see a Mission R derivative in dealerships by 2025 depending on how long it required Porsche to develop the 2015 design into the 2019 Taycan production vehicle centered on the Mission-E concept from 2015.

It has a butterfly-style steering wheel with a digital screen in its center, and a second digital instrument display located above it.

As a result of the carbon moncell's self-contained construction, drivers may theoretically train on their racing lines in a simulator that closely matches the race car's surroundings, according to Porsche's marketing materials. The idea is intriguing, but if we had to choose between a virtual and actual Mission Rs, we'd go with the real one.
