To give us a taste of what its future generation of sports cars will be like, Alpine is unveiling the A110 E-ternité, a battery-powered variant of its current model. The prototype, which was first shown off during the 2022 French Formula 1 Grand Prix in July and then shown at Alpine's booth at the 2022 Paris Motor Show, commemorates the A110's 60th anniversary while also looking to the future.

The Alpine A110 E-ternité prototype includes a 60 kWh battery pack built from parts taken from the Mégane E-Tech, and it was developed to match the "performance, balance, and agility" of the ICE-powered variant. But it wasn't a simple switch; engineers had to develop new battery housings tailored to the A110's dimensions.

There are a total of twelve battery modules in the prototype car, with four in the front and eight in the rear. This results in a weight distribution of 42 percent front and 58 percent rear, which is quite close to the regular model's 43 percent front and 57 percent rear weight distribution. A 261-mile WLTP range is made possible by the prototype's battery pack. In keeping with its performance focus, the A110 E-ternité is equipped with an electric motor located in the rear that generates 221 lb-ft of torque and 239 horsepower (178 kW).

The EV's 4.5-second 0-62 mph sprint is slower than that of the ICE models, and the peak speed is a more modest 155 mph. Alpine has no plans to mass produce the E-ternité; rather, the goal of this initiative is to prepare us for what lies ahead. From 2024 forward, the company plans to only sell electric vehicles. To start with, the lineup will include a four-door coupe, a hot hatchback, and an electric A110 replacement being co-developed with Lotus.
