Move Over Cybertruck! GAC Pickup 01 Is Coming For The Spotlight
by AutoExpert | 14 May, 2025
Here’s something you probably didn’t expect: a badass electric pickup coming out of China that’s actually headed for production. It’s called the GAC Pickup 01, and it just made its debut at the Shanghai Auto Show.
This isn’t one of those "cool but never gonna happen" concept trucks. GAC says they’re putting it into production in 2027 and plan to sell it in places like Australia, Mexico, and Saudi Arabia. That’s a big step for a company that most folks outside of Asia haven’t heard much about yet.

Let's talk about the design. The GAC Pickup 01 looks like it rolled straight out of a sci-fi movie: big, boxy, and bold. It’s got this aggressive, squared-off styling with tons of ground clearance, chunky tires, and real off-road presence. Honestly, if you saw it in your rearview mirror, you’d probably move over just out of respect.
Instead of mirrors, it’s got cameras on the sides (because apparently we live in the future now), and there are two thick LED light bars sitting up top like it’s ready for a desert rally.

Inside, it’s clean and modern thanks to a wide digital display across the dash, minimal clutter, and just enough tech to feel current without going overboard. It’s hard to say how much of the interior will actually make it to the final version.
No specs yet on battery size, range, or what kind of power this thing’s pushing. GAC is playing it close to the chest for now. But if they can back up the looks with solid numbers, the Pickup 01 could seriously shake up the electric truck market.
