Mercedes-Benz Sustaineer Tech Demonstrator represents the brand's ambition for commercial vehicles in the future. Starting with an electric Sprinter, the business outfits it with cutting-edge technology.

Sustaineer is a combination of the words sustainability and pioneer, coined by Mercedes to describe the automaker's desire to push the boundaries of what a delivery truck may be. A large solar panel of 51.7 square feet is installed on the roof of the truck (4.8 square meters). It may deliver up to 2,361 miles (3,800 km) of range every year in sunny conditions even when the ignition is turned off.

Interestingly, Mercedes-Benz Sustaineer has the technology to clean up cities. The air is scrubbed by dust filters in the front and underbody of the car. They may swallow up microscopic bits of dirt off tires, brakes, and pavement. According to Mercedes, this technology can minimize particles measuring 10 micrometers in the immediate proximity of the van by 50%. Once a year, these filters would need to be replaced.

Sustainable materials are used extensively in van construction. The underbody panels are made of recycled polypropylene and recycled textile fibers from old tires. The cab and cargo compartment are separated by a straw divider with a waterproof finish. A water-based coat with a low concentration of organic solvents is used on the shelf uprights. Vegan leather is used for the steering wheel cover.

Mercedes-Benz Sustaineer includes a unique Speed Delivery Door that can recognize the user and opens instantly when he or she approaches. It's also more silent than a standard sliding door. On a delivery route with 150 stops, Mercedes believes that this invention would save up to 25 mins.

The Sustaineer features cameras for monitoring the road, just like many current vehicles, but Mercedes is uniquely utilizing them. The system keeps an eye on the road for potential risks. It then transmits that information back to Mercedes, which can subsequently share the location with other trucks, helping drivers to prevent the danger.

With the eVito panel van, eVito tourer, eSprinter, and EQV, Mercedes views electric vehicles as the future for its vans. It won't be long before we see the eCitan and EQT on market.
