Lexus Presented An Electric Supercar Concept To Substitute Its LFA

By 2030, Lexus plans to build an electric supercar that serves as a worthy successor to the LFA. The new car, shown in concept form as part of the surprise revelation of 15 new Toyota and Lexus EV concepts, will be one of the EVs introduced by Lexus as it transitions away from combustion engines. Lexus will provide an EV in every segment by 2030, and by 2035, it will solely sell electric vehicles in China, Europe, and North America, with ICE car sales ending entirely.

Future Lexus electric vehicles will benefit from this car's development experience. Lexus is aiming for a 0-62 mph speed in "the low two-second range" and an endurance of more than 435 miles. The supercar concept has been identified as a potential early adopter of solid-state batteries, which Toyota has announced intentions to use in production EVs by the middle of the decade.

However, before then, the company will use solid-state batteries in hybrid vehicles to "test and evaluate the technology" before expanding it to pure-electric vehicles. The concept shows no similarity to any contemporary Lexus car, with a large bonnet creating a unique cab-rear profile. With low-profile tires, a visible aerodynamics kit, huge air intakes, as well as a red tow strap at the front, it's definitely a tough statement.

The RZ crossover, Lexus' first customized EV, will be officially unveiled in the coming months, with a market debut scheduled for mid-2022. In near-production-ready condition, the SUV was showcased alongside the supercar.
