Buick, an American manufacturer with a large presence in China due to the SAIC-GM partnership, debuted a design study for an autonomous premium MPV at the Guangzhou Auto Show this year.

China was the first place in the world where the Buick Smart Pod and the GL8 Flagship Concept made their debuts.
The Smart Pod is the firm's bold vision for the future of premium business travel. It is built on GM's newest Ultium EV platform and has a luxurious and connection layout.

The one-box design sets it apart from other minivans on the market. Large-diameter wheels, toned-up fenders, small overhangs, and a contoured body define the Smart Pod. For a fresher appearance, the huge glass top and side windows are body-colored. When not in use, the headlights and taillights are also covered by flowing high-resolution visuals that resemble flames.

When you enter via the huge sliding doors, you'll find a nice living area with lots of free space, as the vehicle can only seat four people.

The concept automobile was designed to be completely self-driving, eliminating the need for a driver. Passengers in the back will be able to see a retractable 50-inch retina display with ultra-crisp visuals for entertaining, web conferencing, navigation, or any other vital things. A head-up display may also display information on the side windows.

The screen retracts when not in use, leaving a tiny portion visible for basic functions. If extra passengers are required, a bench seat for two more persons may be unfolded from the table in front of the screen. Users can explore the infotainment system for everything they could require throughout their travel thanks to sensors and artificial intelligence. A sophisticated noise suppression technology creates a peaceful and comfortable environment for calm talks.

The cabin appears to be packed with high-end materials based on the official interior images. The top portion is primarily painted white, with blue suede seats, leather-like material with white piping, wood-grain flooring, and copper highlights.

Buick Smart Pod is not likely to become a production vehicle soon, based on its appearance. However, a few of the concept car's design elements might be incorporated into future products.
