In 2024, MG Plans To Unveil A Low-Cost Electric Sports Vehicle

As MG prepares to mark its 100th anniversary in 2024, the company is expected to showcase a production sportscar that harkens back to the brand's origins. The new model will assist MG in attracting a more youthful audience and reinvigorate interest in the legendary MG brand.

The MG Cyberster, which was exhibited in concept form at the Shanghai Auto Show in 2021 and garnered a positive reaction from 5,000 potential consumers, led to the vehicle being approved for manufacturing. The EV's production model will be introduced in 2024 as part of MG's centennial celebrations, with official declarations implying a low price point.

A representative stated: "We are working on a surprise for you guys. Of course, we know we were the affordable sports car brand in the past, and now we are the new electric vehicle brand, and we will surprise you. We will be in markets that nobody has been in before."

These phrases might point to a low-cost, all-electric two-seater roadster that would compete with ICE-powered vehicles like the Mazda Miata or MX-5. Carl Gotham, MG UK's head of design, claimed that the roadster would be futuristic while still paying homage to the brand's history and using cutting-edge tech and superior design.

However, the concept's claimed range of 800 km (497 miles) and 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) sprint time of under 3 seconds appear unlikely to be realized by an inexpensive EV.
