Canoo Unveils American Bulldog, A Very Rugged Electric Pickup

Canoo has recently introduced a fresh electric pickup truck known as the American Bulldog, drawing inspiration from their tactical EV prototype developed for the U.S. Army last year. Canoo's Executive Chairman and CEO, Tony Aquila, explained the choice of name by stating that “like the American Bulldog, this vehicle is loyal and courageous”.

This new model is based on the regular Canoo Pickup but boasts a more rugged design. In contrast to the single-cab design of the Screaming Eagle military prototype, the American Bulldog features a more practical dual-cab silhouette.

While its greenhouse and proportions maintain the Canoo identity, the bodywork and lighting elements have undergone a redesign compared to the standard van and pickup models. At the front, there are triple LED headlights connected by black trim pieces to create a more utilitarian appearance. These are complemented by off-road bumpers and protective skid plates.

Additionally, the new American Bulldog receives boxier-wide fender extensions and a new set of rugged black steel wheels fitted with mud-terrain tires. Other features include inserts on the suicide doors, the fold-down tailgate of the rear bed, and a robust-looking rear end with a full-width LED light bar and an integrated step.

Inside, Canoo incorporated military-style bags on the door panels, orange accents, and corresponding graphics on the infotainment screen. Unfortunately, Canoo has not provided specific technical specifications for the American Bulldog, but it is expected to share many similarities with the standard Canoo pickup. It might share the same 600-horsepower electric powertrain and all-wheel-drive system as the Screaming Eagle prototype.

Furthermore, it is likely to share the honeycomb structure, brake-by-wire, and steer-by-wire systems with other Canoo products. Canoo has not clarified whether the American Bulldog is intended for mass production or if it will remain a unique concept.
