BMW i Vision AMBY: More Than An E-Bike

In this post, we're going to show you photos of the two BMW concept electric bikes from the Munich Motor Show!

While the i Vision Circular is newsworthy in Munich, BMW's two-wheel designers have a long discussion about the destiny of urban mobility as well. AMBY is a revolutionary e-bike that blurs the line between a bicycle and a motorbike.

Instead of a twist-grip throttle and footpegs, the Vision AMBY I is more like an e-bike that requires people to pedal to get electrical support.

There is, however, a modular speed idea that restricts the speed of both bikes based on where they're being driven, which is a nice touch. Pedestrian walkways have a speed limit of 15 mph (25 k/m), while inner-city highways allow speeds up to 28 mph (45 k/km). Outside of the city boundaries, both bikes can reach a top speed of 37 mph (60 k/m).

In Europe, e-bikes can only go 15 mph, but BMW says geofencing tech can be used to automatically manage the bikes' speeds. Because of hefty off-road tires and a rather high seat height of 33.9 inches (860 millimeters), the Vision AMBY's motocross-inspired appearance is harsher, but it weighs about a third less than a typical motorbike.

Due to its curb weight of 66 lbs (30 kg), the AMBY tends to make even that look chubby. AMBY's single-sided swingarm is made of recycled metals, and each wheel has 120 mm of suspension travel.

Although BMW Motorrad hasn't specified the AMBY's battery capacity, it comes with a 2000 Wh battery in the center of the frame that can provide a range of up to 186 miles (300 km), relying on the operating mode, and, obviously, whether your legs can do it.

It's possible to start both machines using a smartphone app, which can also be used as a digital key.
