Alpine Alpenglow Concept Introduces An Engine With Hydrogen Combustion

The low-slung Alpine Alpenglow concept will debut next week at the Paris Motor Show with a striking look and lightweight construction similar to the A110. Interestingly, it reduces its environmental effect by using recycled carbon.

Alpine, like Toyota, thinks hydrogen-powered internal combustion engine  cars can coexist with battery-powered and fuel-cell electric vehicles. There are two cylindrical tanks at 700 bar storing the required power, and the Alpenglow generates practically nothing save steam and riveting engine roars.

The translucent dynamic rear spoiler is what really makes this concept stand out, while the novel engine certainly helps. In fact, the pedals, steering wheel's paddles, and areas of the hood are also see-through. The general design foreshadows the LMDh racing vehicle arriving in 2024, while the front and back lighting signatures will be used in future Alpine models.

The unusual wheels that the wild Alpine Alpenglow uses are shaped like snowflakes, and they, too, are see-through. As of right now, there are no plans to introduce a hydrogen-powered ICE variant. Rather, three battery-powered cars will be on the company's product plan in the electric age beginning in 2025: a hot hatch version of the resurrected Renault 5 supermini, a GT X-Over crossover, and a new sports car co-developed with Lotus.
