ABB And NASCAR's New 1,341-HP Electric Prototype Unveiled

ABB and NASCAR unveiled an electric prototype that offers a glimpse into the future of motorsport. Specifically, Toyota, Ford, and Chevrolet worked together to build the prototype. A 78-kWh battery pack powers a tri-motor powertrain in the final vehicle, producing up to 1,341 horsepower. All three of the motors are STARD UHP 6-phase units, two of which are located out back.

The prototype features a new electric drivetrain but a modified Next Gen chassis. Meanwhile, the wheels, brakes, suspension, and steering are said to be taken from the NASCAR Cup Series vehicle.

The prototype boasts a unique generic crossover body crafted from a composite material derived from sustainable flax. This innovative choice not only enhances the vehicle's performance but also underscores its eco-friendly design.

The vehicle is further equipped with a large diffuser, an imposing rear wing, a fully enclosed grille, regenerative braking, and distinctive Goodyear tires, all contributing to its exceptional performance and sustainability.

While the prototype signals a potential shift towards an electric future, NASCAR remains steadfast in its commitment to the traditional significance of the combustion engine in racing. However, the company is equally committed to embracing electrification and leveraging innovative solutions to reduce its carbon footprint.

NASCAR has set a bold target to achieve zero carbon emissions across its core operations by 2035, a testament to its dedication to decarbonizing its operations. As a result, by 2028, NASCAR will have more on-site electric vehicle chargers and run all of its buildings and racetracks using 100% renewable energy.
