Zoox's Driverless Taxis Go Public

Zoox, a California-based autonomous vehicle company, has successfully tested its electric robotaxi with passengers on board for the first time. The vehicle took its inaugural run as an employee shuttle service on February 11, and it is the first time a self-driving taxi without traditional controls has carried passengers on public roads.

This achievement is a significant milestone for autonomous vehicles and demonstrates progress in the field. Zoox, which is a subsidiary of Amazon, will use its self-driving vehicles to transport its employees between its two primary office buildings.

Zoox has stated that its autonomous vehicle can carry a maximum of four passengers and drive at speeds up to 35 mph while being able to navigate traffic, pedestrians, cyclists, and traffic lights without any issues.

Zoox's CEO, Aicha Evans, has highlighted the achievement of being the first firm to operate a self-driving vehicle with passengers on public roads in California as a major milestone for the autonomous vehicle industry. If Zoox receives the required regulatory approvals, the self-driving taxis may start operating on roads nationwide.
