Tony Stark’s Acura NSX Roadster Is For Sale, But You Can’t Drive It On The Road

Tony Stark had plenty of toys in The Avengers, but his red Acura NSX Roadster was something else. It looked like a supercar from the future, yet Acura never sold anything like it. Now, the one-off car built for the 2012 Marvel movie is up for auction, with the proceeds going to charity. And despite its futuristic looks, the story starts with a car from 1991.
Acura’s Advanced Design Studio in Los Angeles came up with the design, while California-based Trans FX turned it into reality. The team started with a first-generation NSX and covered it in custom resin-and-fiberglass bodywork inspired by the 2011 NSX Concept. The second-generation NSX was still years away from production, and it never came as a roadster, so this movie car is a version you won’t find anywhere else.

The Hot Rod Red paint, lowered suspension, and 18-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels give it plenty of attitude. The “STARK 33” New York license plate from the movie is still there, too. But not everything is as high-tech as it looks. The headlights are decorative silver trim, the cooling intakes are blocked, and the windshield actually comes from a Chrysler PT Cruiser. Hollywood has its ways.

Inside, the car keeps the original NSX dashboard, complete with physical buttons and that oddly angled center console. Aftermarket bucket seats replace the standard ones, while the engine remains a naturally aspirated 3.0-liter VTEC V6. It’s paired with a five-speed manual gearbox driving the rear wheels, with no hybrid system or electric motors involved.

Unfortunately, you can’t legally drive it on public roads because its custom bodywork is considered too fragile. The original NSX has also clocked up 252,200 miles, and the car shows scratches, paint cracks, and some interior wear. Acura kept it after filming and later displayed it for the NSX’s 35th anniversary. Now it’s listed on Cars & Bids, where bidding had reached $98,500 just two days into the seven-day auction. For a Marvel fan, that’s a chance to own a genuine movie prop with a proper NSX heart.
