This Chinese Luxury SUV Wants BMW X7 and Mercedes GLS Buyers to Switch

Can a newcomer from China tempt buyers away from a BMW X7 or Mercedes-Benz GLS? Zeekr is betting it can. The brand has unveiled the European-spec 9X, bringing one of its most advanced SUVs to the region as it ramps up its challenge against the continent's established luxury players.

Some have even compared its design to the Rolls-Royce Cullinan, giving the full-size SUV plenty of attention before it has even reached showrooms.

Europe will receive the 9X exclusively in a six-seat configuration, powered by Zeekr's Super Hybrid powertrain that pairs a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with dual electric motors. While the Chinese model produces a staggering 1,381 hp, the European version has been tuned to 897 hp.

Even so, it reaches 62 mph in just 4.1 seconds, tops out at 149 mph, and can tow up to 4,400 lbs. Thanks to its 900-volt electrical architecture, the battery can charge from 10 to 80 percent in only 9.5 minutes, while total driving range is rated at an impressive 458 miles.

The cabin places a heavy emphasis on comfort and technology. A 32-speaker Naim audio system comes standard, joined by a massive 47-inch head-up display, a 13-inch anti-glare touchscreen, and a 16-inch 3.5K OLED infotainment display.

Front and second-row passengers enjoy massaging seats, while those in the rear also get a 17-inch fold-down entertainment screen, a refrigerator, dual 6.3-inch control displays, Nappa leather trim, crystal-finished controls, and ambient lighting that synchronizes with movies for a home theater-like experience.

Rounding out the package are LiDAR-based driver assistance systems developed for European roads. Pricing remains a mystery for now, though Zeekr has confirmed the 9X will be available in Crystal White, Lava Grey, and Onyx Black.
