What Happens If Petrol Is Used In A Diesel Engine

It's not uncommon for us to fill up a diesel-powered vehicle with petrol through accident or carelessness. Let's have a look at what occurs if you use petrol instead of diesel. This is something that all drivers should be aware of.

The majority of the time, when filling up with petrol instead of diesel, the driver is unaware of his error. Even though the car would most likely start without issue, there may be some issues once the fuel is in the system.

petrol instead of diesel

Diesel, in case you didn't know, also lubricates the engine, something that petrol cannot accomplish. As a result, when petrol is introduced into the system, the friction between the engine's moving parts increases, potentially leading to seizure. When we use petrol instead of diesel, the injection pump, injectors, and high-pressure pump can all fail. Obviously, because the fuel filter will be impacted by the petrol in all of these circumstances, you will need to replace it.

If you notice your error before starting the engine, you should prevent it as much as possible. You'll need to find a rig or call a towing business to carry you to the nearest service. Even if the amount of petrol in the tank is little, you don't have to run the risk of diluting the petrol with diesel.

To begin, the tank must be entirely drained, which will necessitate the removal of the back seat as well as the fuel pump. On some car models, however, the pump cover is not situated in an easily accessible location. The mechanics can even choose to remove the tank in this circumstance.

After draining all of the petrol from the tank, you'll need to replace the fuel filter and reassemble all of the components. The tank will be filled with diesel after all of these actions, and the engine should start, albeit it may take a few tries.
