We're Getting A Good Look At The New Polestar 5

An all-new platform being created at an advanced technological base in Warwickshire will provide the next Polestar 5 electric sports sedan supercar levels of body rigidity. According to vehicle engineering director Steve Swift, the 5 is the first Polestar car to be created in the UK, as well as the first "designed by Polestar for Polestar" rather than built from a Volvo platform.

The body of the Polestar 5 is primarily made of bonded aluminum, with additional portions made of hot-formed, cold-formed, die-cast, and extruded aluminum.

Porsche Taycan is a clear competitor to the 5, and Polestar is said to get one at its MIRA center for testing. Rather than pursuing fully sports car-like agility, the Chinese-Swedish automaker intends to build a car with more daily conformity and a softened touch.

Underbody aerodynamics adapted from motorsport and a slippery body shape are among the additional features. Polestar hasn't revealed the powertrain or battery details of the 5 prototypes that are currently being tested in the UK and the Arctic Circle, but the figures are expected to be phenomenal.

Polestar engineers were able to keep the Precept concept car's appearance in the production version. The huge panoramic roof, as well as the long wheelbase and low roof height, are all retained. The 5's engineering is heavily influenced by future Polestar models.

“You start with a car first, then look at the products in other spaces, then how many of those spaces we can play in while designing it once. It’s part of the future, definitely,” said Steve Swift, head of vehicle engineering.
