The VW Saveiro holds a special place in the Brazilian market as the pickup nameplate that has been around the longest. Since it was first made in 1982, over 1.6 million happy owners have put it in their garages. The latest version, the fifth generation, came out in 2009 and has been updated in 2013 and 2016.

Now, for the 2024 model year, the VW Saveiro small pickup is back with yet another facelift, bringing some fresh updates to the table.

The changes kick off with noticeable tweaks at the front end: a newly prominent bumper, an expanded chrome-graced grille, headlights that have been given a bit of a makeover, and a slightly raised hood. As your eyes travel along the sides, you'll spot more plastic cladding, and if you look to the rear, the taillights come with some updated graphics.

Under the hood, the power comes from a 1.6-liter naturally aspirated engine, which produces 114 horsepower and 116 lb-ft of torque. All that oomph is sent to the front wheels through a 5-speed manual gearbox. The Saveiro family includes the feature-rich Extreme trim, the entry-level Robust offered in single-cab and dual-cab configurations, and the mid-range Trendline.

Every model comes standard with nifty features like rear parking sensors, ESC, Hill Hold Control, and four disc brakes. Here's something new in the lineup: the introduction of the Extreme trim. This model stands out with its distinctive Extreme badges, an emblem on the C-pillar, sharp diamond-cut 15-inch wheels, a paint shade named Oliver Gray, tough-looking skid plates, a matte black trim piece on the tailgate, and a roof rack that extends over the rear bed.

The Extreme trim is also treating you to leather-wrapped seats with cool Gray Oliver inserts, sleek brushed steel trim on the dashboard, a 4-speaker audio system, and a handy reversing camera.

If you're aiming for some extra tech, there's an optional Tech Package that brings in stuff like a self-dimming rearview mirror, cruise control, automatic headlights and wipers, and an off-road button to activate the Hill Descent Control, a feature reserved for this front-wheel-drive pickup. Already up for grabs in Brazil, the 2024 VW Saveiro is stepping into the ring.
