Volvo Revamps EV Nomenclature and Amps Up Horsepower

Let's chat about some cool updates from Volvo. You know how things can get a bit messy with car names and all? Well, Volvo's been thinking the same and decided to shake things up a bit. Say goodbye to the "Recharge" tag for their electric vehicles. It's a bit of a bittersweet moment, but exciting changes are on the horizon.

So, the XC40 Recharge and C40 Recharge? They're history. Now, we're welcoming the new kids on the block – the EX40 and EC40, and guess what? They're not just any new names; they come packed with a whopping 436 horsepower. Yeah, you heard that right!

Volvo

It's all happening in 2024, and it's not just about slapping on new names. Volvo's got this big plan to clear up the confusion with their lineup, making it super easy for us to get what's what. Alongside the EX40 and EC40, there's this adorable EX30 crossover, a beast of an EX90 SUV, and for our friends in China, the EM90 minivan.

Volvo

And for those who are into plug-in hybrids, the XC60 Recharge, S60 Recharge, and their pals are now sporting cool "T6" or "T8" suffixes. It's like a little nod to their power output and a hint at Volvo's shift towards a fully electric future by 2030.

Volvo

But wait, there's more! The EX40 and EC40 are not just getting new names; they're also getting beefed up. If you opt for the dual-motor setup, there's this neat Performance Software Pack available in certain spots around the globe, giving you an extra 34 horsepower to play with.

Volvo

That bumps the total up to 436 horsepower, making these babies zoom faster. And for the record, the Twin Motor versions can now dash from 0 to 62 mph in just 4.7 seconds. You can even add this perk to your order or upgrade if you already own a 2024 model.

Volvo

Volvo's also giving some love to their cars with internal combustion engines. The XC60 and XC90 are getting an upgrade with a cleaner, more efficient B5 mild-hybrid engine. The result? Less fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, which is always a win in my book.

Volvo

Remember the XC60 Black Edition from last year? It must have been a hit because Volvo's rolling out a similar dark, sleek look for the XC40, EX40, and EC40. Picture this: glossy black 20-inch wheels, Onyx Black paint, shiny badging, and chic dark interiors. Sounds pretty snazzy, right?

Volvo

And just so you know, Volvo's not stopping here. They've got big plans with several more EVs on the way as they gear up for a fully electric lineup by the end of this decade. Despite electric vehicles making up only 16 percent of their total sales in 2023, they're hitting the gas on this electric dream, with last year's sales setting a new record.

Volvo

Out of over 700,000 cars shipped, 113,419 were electric – that's a 70 percent jump from the year before. Way to go, Volvo!

Volvo

So, that's the scoop on Volvo's latest moves. New names, more power, and a commitment to going green. Can't wait to see what they roll out next!
