Volvo Launches A Lower-Cost, Single-Motor C40 Recharge And Tweaks The XC40 Recharge

Volvo has updated its C40 Recharge portfolio with a more inexpensive single-motor variant, as part of a slew of upgrades that include a makeover for EV models of the XC40 SUV. The new entry-level C40 does away with the rear motor found in higher-end versions in favor of a single front-wheel-drive system.
According to WLTP testing, the C40 Recharge's 69 kWh battery pack will take the car up to 269 miles (434 km) before requiring a top-up. A rapid charger will fill a battery from 10% to 80% in 32 minutes.
The XC40 is built on the same platform and already has a single-motor version. So yet, the only news about the compact SUV is a stylistic tweak for the all-electric Recharge models. To make the look closer to the latest C40s, the XC40 Recharge gets a minimalist grille, redesigned LED Thor's Hammer lighting with adaptive technology, and a reworked bumper.
Volvo also has introduced extra paint colors and alloy wheel styles to the XC40 Recharge, as well as a luxury leather-free upholstery choice. The new single-motor C40's price and availability in the United States have still to be determined, but the first UK deliveries are scheduled for fall 2022.
