Volvo 262C Is Four Decades Old

The beautiful Volvo 262C was presented at the Geneva Motor Show back in 1977. The carmaker described it as an unexpected model, this being the first coupe coming from Volvo.
The carmaker created 262C in order to attract new customers in the USA and improve its overall image. Jan Wilsgaard and Sergio Coggiola worked on the design and transformed the four-door Volvo 164 model into a two-door coupe. The concept is kept nowadays at the Volvo Museum in Gothenburg.
The coupe was powered by a 2.7-liter V6 engine, delivering 140 hp. Peugeot and Renault are the ones that developed the engine in Douvrin, France. The car's performances and equipment are impressive even nowadays - there is a complete leather interior, with heated seats, cruise control, electric mirrors, central locking, air conditioning, and many more features.
The engine was teamed up with a four-speed manual standard transmission or a limited-slip differential or a three-speed automatic transmission.
In its time, 262C was meant to compete with Mercedes-Benz 280CE and Cadillac Eldorado. The model became popular in an instance and the carmaker needed to increase the planned number of produced cars. A total of 6,622 cars were sold between 1977 and 1981.
