It's an interesting move down under as the Aussie branch of Volkswagen goes for the Amarok as their new fire and rescue vehicle. Those pictures they shared showcase a special Volkswagen Amarok V6 prototype that's all about handling emergencies.

VW teamed up with a couple of companies, MFI Automotive Group and Ecco Safety Group, to make this happen. MFI is known for crafting custom bodies for trucks and utility vehicles, while Ecco Safety Group brings its expertise in emergency systems and safety solutions to the table.

Taking a closer look, this prototype is built on the Amarok Style trim, so you get those standard 18-inch wheels and IQ.Matrix LED headlights. But they're shaking things up by ditching the regular open bed and replacing it with a closed structure. That means the Volkswagen Amarok V6's got plenty of room to stash all the specialized gear they need.

The carmaker also added a siren on the roof, LED lights that cover every angle, a handy reversing camera, parking sensors, and a sign board at the back.

Under the hood, the trusty Ford-sourced 3.0-liter V6 diesel engine is still in charge, kicking out a pretty solid 247 horsepower and a beefy 443 lb-ft of torque. That power gets managed by a smooth 10-speed automatic gearbox, and you can switch to 4WD whenever you need it.

With this move, it's clear that Volkswagen is serious about providing tailored vehicles that suit the unique demands of emergency services. The big reveal happened at the AFAC23 emergency management conference and exhibition in Brisbane.
