Volcon And GM Join Forces To Develop Electric Off-Road UTVs

Volcon has stated that from now on, all of its UTVs will use electric motor systems developed by General Motors. While few details were released, it was reported that GM would be providing battery cell modules and other components for the newly announced Stag UTV.

Travis Hester, Vice President of EV Growth Operations at GM, stated that the company has transitioned from an automaker to a platform innovator, with scalable designs geared to drive EV adoption across sectors and product categories. He said that their partnership with Volcon shows what they want to do and shows how flexible the platform is.

Christian Okonsky, CTO of Volcon, said that the company has worked hard to make the best UTV possible, and that their partnership with GM is the best way to get this project done.

The introduction of the new Stag is scheduled for the summer of 2023 for $39,999. It will include a 42 kWh battery and an electric drivetrain that has 125 horsepower and 265 lb-ft of torque, with overboost pushing the numbers above 140 horsepower.

With this configuration, the Volcon UTV will be able to travel more than 100 miles on a single charge and reach top speeds of 80 mph. The battery can be charged in less than six hours thanks to the integrated 7.2 kW charger.
