Toyota, Suzuki, And Daihatsu May Be Developing A Mid-Engined Sports Car

Toyota is reportedly working on a mid-engine sports vehicle, according to the most recent rumor from Best Car Web. The Japanese publication claims to have an exclusive source on the outlandish rumor. Even more bizarre, Toyota, Suzuki, and Daihatsu are said to be working together on the project.

The project's details are scant, however, the report indicated that the mid-engine sports vehicle is expected to be unveiled in 2025. There is no supporting documentation or evidence at this time. 

The source adds nothing to the new model other than the fact that it will be constructed on a freshly created platform. However, we can only speculate as to whether this rumored mid-engine sports vehicle would eventually replace the legendary Toyota MR2.

As a reminder, Toyota and Suzuki have been working together on vehicle development for quite some time. The two firms strengthened their relations in 2019 by sharing cars and technologies. Since then, both sides have released various rebadged cars, such as the Suzuki Swace in Europe, which is a rebadged Toyota Corolla Wagon, and the Toyota Rumion in Asian countries, which is a rebadged Suzuki Ertiga MPV.

Besides, Toyota and Daihatsu, have a long history of collaboration dating back to 1967. In the late 1990s, Toyota purchased a majority share in Daihatsu, and in 2016, Toyota purchased Daihatsu's remaining assets, transforming the company into a wholly-owned subsidiary of one of the world's largest automakers.
