Toyota Expands Crown Lineup With Luxurious 2025 Crown Signia SUV

Since its introduction in 1955, the Toyota Crown has been an iconic subbrand in Japan, where it is sold in four different body configurations. After a lengthy absence, Toyota returned to the North American market in 2022 with a sedan-crossover that would eventually replace the Avalon as the company's flagship model. And here we have the 2025 Toyota Crown Signia, boosting the company's lineup.

The production version of the 2022-teased Crown Estate prototype, this two-row mid-size SUV, is anticipated to stay under the same name in Japan. To emphasize its upmarket appeal and escape the wagon image in North America, it is rebranding as the more opulent Crown Signia.

The Crown Signia maintains the Crown family's recognizable design language, which includes EV-inspired styling cues, the recognizable "hammerhead" front fascia, soft curves, and narrow full-width LED taillights. With its modest roofline and relatively short overhangs, it retains a sporty appearance while being classified as an SUV. If not for America's persistent love of trucks and SUVs, it might have adopted a stylish wagon.

The exact measurements of the US-spec Crown Signia have not yet been disclosed, although it is anticipated that they will closely resemble the 194.1-inch-long, 74-inch-wide, and 63.8-inch-tall original Crown Estate prototype. With a 12.3-inch infotainment display and a corresponding 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, the inside dashboard is similar to that of the Crown Crossover. The back bench can be folded flat to make a sizable cargo compartment, and the five-seater arrangement offers plenty of room for rear passengers.

Saddle brown and black are the two inside color options available for the Crown Signia, and each is accented with bronze. Exterior color possibilities are Storm Cloud, Finish Line Red, Oxygen White, Black, and Bronze Age, depending on the trim level. Wheel options for the SUV are 19-inch or 21-inch wheels.

Regarding the powertrain, North America will only get the HEV version, while Japan will offer both hybrid (HEV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variants. The self-charging hybrid system has a 2.5-liter gasoline engine with four cylinders and two electric motors. Together, they produce 243 horsepower, which is sent to all four wheels through an eCVT and an electronic on-demand AWD system.

Along with Normal, Eco, and Sport driving modes, the Crown Signia also has an EV mode for emissions-free driving over short distances and at moderate speeds. Toyota projects a 36 MPG combined fuel economy and a 2,700-pound towing capability.

There will be two trim levels for the 2025 Toyota Crown Signia: the entry-level XLE and the premium Limited. Eight airbags and the Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 ADAS suite are standard on both variants. Advanced features, including Lane Change Assist and Traffic Jam Assist for semi-autonomous driving, as well as the Panoramic View Monitor for improved visibility, are included with the optional Advanced Technology package.

2025 Crown Signia

The 2025 Toyota Crown Signia is expected to hit US showrooms next summer; exact pricing information will be disclosed closer to the vehicle's release date. It is anticipated to be priced higher than the $40,050 base price of the standard Crown.
