Toyota bZ3C: A Closer Look At The New China-Exclusive EV

Here’s a close look at the production version of the Toyota bZ3C, an exciting new electric vehicle developed specifically for the Chinese market in collaboration with BYD and FAW. The bZ3C closely resembles the model shown earlier this year, with production slated to begin in the fourth quarter of 2024.

According to details from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the bZ3C measures 4,780 mm (188 inches) in length, 1,866 mm (73.4 inches) in width, and stands 1,510 mm (59.4 inches) tall, with a wheelbase of 2,880 mm (113.3 inches). The Toyota bZ3C weighs 1,920 kg (4,232 lbs).

While its design shares elements with other recent Toyota models, such as the latest Prius, the bZ3C boasts its own distinctive look. The front of the bZ3C features striking lobster-claw-shaped LED headlights connected by a light bar. Notably, the production model omits the small black air vents on the front quarter panels that were present in the prototype shown at the Beijing Auto Show in April.

Other design elements, including the split roof spoiler, LED taillights/light bar, and flush door handles, remain unchanged. On the technical side, the bZ3C will be powered by a lithium-iron-phosphate battery from BYD’s FinDream battery division. Although the precise capacity remains undisclosed, we anticipate the vehicle to provide a range of 500-600 km (310-372 miles) on the CTLC cycle.

The battery will drive a single electric motor producing 268 hp (200 kW), enabling the bZ3C to reach a top speed of 99 mph. Buyers will have the option of 18-inch or 21-inch wheels and can choose to add a prominent LiDAR unit mounted on the front windshield. These images don't show the cabin, but earlier photos from April revealed a digital instrument cluster, a large central infotainment screen, a floating center console, and ambient lighting in the interior.

Production of the bZ3C will soon begin at Toyota’s joint venture facility with FAW. This new model will join the bZ4X SUV and the bZ3 sedan in Toyota’s expanding electric vehicle lineup in China, marking another significant step in the company’s push into the EV market.
