Tim Cook Compares His Autonomous Apple Car To Real Robot

Leaked patent designs about Apple's electric car show an advanced autonomous technology and inspired rival companies such as Xiaomi and Huawei to develop their own battery-electric cars. But it's not that easy to create a car without partnering with an automaker brand.

Here comes problem number one - not any automaker is willing to partner and invest its time in such a futuristic project. Initially, Apple tried to partner with Hyundai and Nissan, but both strikes failed. Now Apple is negotiating with the Canadian auto part supplier, Magna. The brand is in the spotlight for building the Fisker Ocean.

During a Sway podcast lead by Kara Swisher for New York Times with Tim Cook, Apple's CEO, it was finally confirmed the company's intent to enter the auto industry and stated vaguely that an Apple car, especially the first one would be compared to a robot. But there was no confirmation about Apple's intention to build its own car. Even developing autonomous driving software for other carmakers is a possibility.

According to Cook's opinion, autonomy itself is a core technology. "If you sort of step back, the car, in a lot of ways, is a robot. An autonomous car is a robot. And so there are lots of things you can do with autonomy. And we'll see what Apple does. We love to integrate hardware, software, and services, and find the intersection points of those because we think that's where the magic occurs. We love to own the primary technology that's around that."

Accordingly, to previous Apple's projects, we can sure that if the tech giant decides to build a car then their electric car with integrated autonomous technology and driver assists will blow the competition away. The possible launch of the first Apple electric car, codenamed Project Titan, can be expected around 2024.
