This Bugatti W16 Mistral ‘La Perle Rare’ Took Hundreds Of Hours Just To Paint

When you are already securing one of just 99 Bugatti W16 Mistrals on the planet, blending in is not really the goal. That is exactly why this car exists. It was created to stand apart, even among the rarest of the rare. The ‘La Perle Rare’ was created through Bugatti’s Sur Mesure program after the owner sat down with the brand’s customization team in 2023 and laid out a very clear vision.
The idea was to give the roadster a smooth, flowing look that felt elegant rather than loud. To make that happen, Bugatti developed two completely new paint colors. The top half of the car wears a warm gold tone with soft highlights, while the lower half is finished in a refined white.

Then, the upper and lower halves are divided by hand-painted lines that took hundreds of hours to finish. The wheels carry the same gold and white look, tying everything together. Small touches, like the ‘La Perle Rare’ script on the rear wing and the Dancing Elephant emblem behind the front wheels, make it clear this car was built around one person’s vision.

Inside, the same color theme carries through. We can see polished aluminum next to white-painted carbon fiber, and the door panels wear soft gold and white patterns. The name ‘La Perle Rare’ is stitched along the center tunnel in the actual handwriting of the Sur Mesure manager, which makes it feel personal. The lighting is warm and gentle, letting the materials stand out without trying too hard.

Under the surface, it remains a W16 Mistral in full force. This is the last Bugatti road car to use the 8.0-liter quad-turbocharged W16 engine. It produces 1,578 horsepower and 1,180 lb-ft of torque without any electric assistance.

Power goes to all four wheels through a seven-speed dual clutch gearbox, sending the car from 0 to 62 mph in 2.4 seconds. It has already recorded a run above 282 mph, making it the fastest open-top roadster ever recorded.

But numbers almost feel secondary here. ‘La Perle Rare’ is really about saying goodbye to an era. It is Bugatti closing the chapter on the mighty W16 with something deeply personal, beautifully crafted, and impossible to replicate.
