The Xpeng X9: A Gargantuan Leap Into the Future of Minivans

Xpeng, backed by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, has recently unveiled its latest creation: the X9 minivan. With its silver finish, sharply creased belt line, and angular windshield, this new vehicle is an intriguing mix that echoes the design elements of both the Tesla Cybertruck and the Honda Odyssey.

The X9 will be available in two powertrain configurations:

  1. A single motor setup with 315 HP, a top speed of 124 mph, powered by a lithium iron phosphate battery, and weighing in at 6,889 lbs.
  2. A dual-motor configuration offering between 315 HP and 181 HP, for a total combined output of 500 HP, a top speed of 124 mph, backed by a lithium-ion battery, and a weight of 7,077 lbs.

Irrespective of the powertrain selection, customers can opt for a seating arrangement for up to seven passengers, courtesy of the vehicle's expansive dimensions. The X9 measures 208 inches in length, 78 inches in width, and 70 inches in height—making it four inches longer than the Chrysler Pacifica.

While the X9 may not capture second glances by American design standards, it is considerably larger than most previous Xpeng models. In fact, the G9 SUV is now dwarfed by the X9, being 15.5 inches shorter.

Xpeng X9Set to disrupt the minivan market, the X9 is ready to take on competitors like Zeekr 009, Hycan V09, Denza D9, and the upcoming Li Auto Mega. Adding to its credibility, Volkswagen recently announced plans to utilize Xpeng's platform for their vehicles in the Chinese market.

Official pricing details will be disclosed during the Xpeng X9's launch event.
