Before European deliveries begin in the second part of 2022, Vinfast VF8 and VF9 electric SUVs have been displayed in Barcelona by the Vietnamese carmaker and Pininfarina.

The D- and E-segment SUVs, which were initially introduced at the Los Angeles Auto Show last October as VF e35 and e36 and then renamed FV 8 and VF 9, will land in the United States at the end of 2022 after making their debut in Germany, France, and the Netherlands. At this time, no sales in the United Kingdom are planned.

Vinfast

The two-row VF 8 starts at €36,133 ($41,000) for the Eco model and goes up to €42,669 ($48,000) for the Plus model, while the larger VF 9 starts at €49,280 ($56,000) for the Eco model and goes up to €53,413 ($61,000) for the Plus model before any relevant EV tax benefits are applied.

Vinfast claims that the Tesla Model Y-rivaling VF 8 and BMW X7-sized VF 9 are motivated by sports vehicles and have a contemporary design language optimized for aerodynamics.

Vinfast

Although technical specifics are few, Vinfast claims the dual-motor, all-wheel drive, five-seat VF 8 produces 402 hp (408 PS) and 457 lb-ft (620 Nm) and can travel 313 miles (499 km) on a single charge using the largest available battery. A single motor variant would provide 201 hp (204 PS) and opting for the smaller accessible battery would reduce the range to 285 miles (459 km).

Vinfast

The VF 9 is expected to have the same motor, but with more space for up to 7 passengers and increased range. The regular battery is expected to give the VF 9 a range of 301 miles (484 km), but improvements that can go up to 422 miles (679 km) are expected to be offered.

Both Vinfast vehicles have enormous 15.6-inch dashboard touchscreens and head-up displays, and they should ultimately support Level 3 autonomous driving, which is now only available in Mercedes' premium models.
