The new Honda Civic Type-R model will get an engine that delivers over 260 hp!

The new Civic Type-R model is expected to debut in 2015. In the meantime, the Japanese brand will begin testing on Nurburgring the prototype of the future Civic, which will be equipped with a 2.0 turbo engine that is said to deliver between 265 and 300 hp. The Japanese had to abandon the aspirated engines from the Civic Type-R range in order to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions as well.

Also in 2013, Honda entered the WTCC with the new Civic, the model used in the competition in question being a 1.6 Turbo version of the Civic, specifically developed for competitions. Honda says that its engineers have already learned the necessary lessons in respect of this engine, which is far from being the first turbocharged one from the brand’s history, which they will apply on the new Civic Type-R model.

The most ambitious goal of the new Civic Type R model is to set the fastest time for a front-wheel drive car around the Nurburgring race track. The current record lap sits at 8:07.97 and was set on June 17, 2011 by the driver Laurent Hurgon at the wheel of the latest hot Megane, the RS 265 Trophy. The fastest Civic Type-R model officially registered on Nurburgring was 8:47, set by Horst von Saurma for Sport Auto 11/2001.
