The New Citroen Basalt Vision Is The Future Of Coupe Crossovers

French automaker Citroen has unveiled the Basalt, a new SUV Coupe that will be manufactured in India and South America. Most importantly, the Citroen Basalt Vision is a sneak peek of the finished product that will hit the "shelves" in mid-2024.

Unlike the South American model, which uses halogen headlights, the Indian-spec vehicle has more aesthetically pleasing LED beams. Similar to the seven-seater SUV, the design has a curving roofline and a toned silhouette.

The new Citroen Basalt Vision has dark-finished alloy wheels and various cladding around the wheel arches. At the back, you'll see a C-shaped LED taillight cluster, a bumper that gives off an aggressive vibe, a shaped hatch with a built-in spoiler, and rear glass that slopes sharply.

An improvement on the CMP/eCMP, the Citroen Basalt uses the Smart Car platform. The platform, like the New C3 and New C3 Aircross, has been tailored to suit the demands of clients in South America and India. So, it's not the same as other mechanically similar cars sold in Europe, such as the Citroen e-C3.

Although Citroen did not provide any information on the available powertrains, we may expect to see the tried-and-true turbocharged 1.2-liter gasoline engine that produces 108 horsepower. Rumor has it that in 2025, with the ICE-powered Citroen Basalt Vision, there will be an all-electric variant that may take design cues from the local New e-C3.

The Citroen Basalt will go head-to-head with the Fiat Fastback, another vehicle in its class, when it makes its South American debut in the latter half of 2024. The forthcoming Tata Curvv is the only other SUV coupe in India to compete in this market.
