Chery, the well-known Chinese car manufacturer, is all set to introduce its new Omoda 5 in the UK. The starting price of the petrol version of the Omoda 5 comes in at just £24,000. That makes it one of the most affordable options in its segment.

Under the hood, it packs a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine with 187 bhp and 203 lb-ft of torque, paired with a seven-speed automatic gearbox.

It's also pretty efficient, boasting 31.4 mpg on the WLTP cycle and emitting 170 g/km of CO2. The base Omoda 5 Comfort will arrive with 17-inch alloy wheels, Apple CarPlay&Android Auto, dual wireless phone chargers, ambient lighting, dual 10.25-inch display screens, and dual-zone climate control all as standard.

For those looking for a touch of luxury, the top-tier Noble trim, priced at £27,000, throws in extras like a heated leather steering wheel, a sunroof, and larger 18-inch alloy wheels. While we're still waiting for all the details on the electric version, early reports suggest it's going to be a contender.

It's rumored to have a front-mounted motor with 198 bhp and a hefty 295 lb-ft of torque, powered by a 64 kWh battery that should give it an impressive 280 miles of range on the WLTP cycle.

Chery, known for its prolific automotive exports, is aiming to achieve 10,000 annual sales in the UK for the Omoda 5. They're also gearing up to launch more models, including internal combustion engines (ICE), plug-in hybrids (PHEV), and battery electric vehicles (BEV).

The spotlight remains firmly on electric vehicles. The next model in Chery's UK lineup will be the Jaecoo 7, a larger SUV in the vein of the Hyundai Tucson, offering a choice between petrol and plug-in hybrid power.

While the marketing strategy for the Omoda brand in the UK is still unfolding, Chery is confident in its understanding of the market thanks to its partnership with Jaguar Land Rover. They're planning to establish a network of approximately 40–50 dealers, a mix of self-run sites and franchises, to cover key cities.
