New 2022 VW Golf R Wagon With A Drift Mode Is An “Illicit” In The United States

VW Golf collection has just expanded with the introduction of 2022 Golf R Wagon, also known as Golf R Estate and Golf R Variant in select markets, which, predictably, excludes the United States and Canada.

VW Golf R Wagon, like the hatchback, is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that delivers 315-hp and 310 lb-ft (420 Nm) of torque. A seven-speed dual-clutch transmission distributes power to all four wheels.

Golf R Wagon, according to VW, can reach 62 mph (100 km/h) in 4.9 seconds, 0.2 seconds slower than the hatchback, and go on to a maximum speed of 168 mph (270 km/h) with the R Performance Package or 155 mph (250 km/h) without it. This package includes 19-inch wheels as well as driving modes for the Nurburgring and Drift. It is a must-have if you want to take full advantage of your new Golf R Wagon.

Golf R Wagon is 174 lbs (79 kg) heavier than the hatch, but that's a reasonable trade-off given how much more functional it is. It has a cargo capacity of 21.57 cu-ft (611 liters) when the rear seats are up and 58 cu-ft (1,642 liters) when the seats are folded down. It can also pull up to 4,188 lbs (1,900 kg). VW has tweaked the suspension system to compensate for the extra weight and uneven weight distribution over the hatch.

The new automobile is 13.7 inches (349 mm) longer than its predecessor and has a more expansive cabin. The cabin has blue light sources, imitation carbon-fiber trim, sports seats, a flat-bottomed steering wheel, and blue designs over the infotainment and digital gauge cluster displays, just like the hatch.

Although no pricing information has been given, we do know that it will be available in Germany, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland in mid-August and will cost somewhat more than the hatch.
