The Latest Opel Frontera Is The Bold New Face Of Adventure

Opel has unveiled the brand-new Frontera, the replacement for the aging Crossland, with the first official images. The vehicle will follow the same blueprint as the forthcoming Citroen C3 Aircross in offering mild hybrid and all-electric drivetrain options.

A little background, please. The original Frontera was an SUV based on the Isuzu Wizard that was produced by Opel and its sister company, Vauxhall, from 1991 to 1998. After that, there was still another overhaul that went on until 2004.

The future Citroen C3 Aircross shares its platform and much of its bodywork with the third generation, but this generation moves away from the off-road emphasis of the previous two and instead prioritizes utility. When it comes to the outside, the Opel range is known for its Vizor fascia and simple LED headlights. A distinctive two-tone design in orange and gloss black characterizes the model seen here.

The split taillights and C-pillars at the rear are the first things you can notice. On the interior, the new Opel Frontera is rather spare. Notable features include a 10-inch infotainment screen and a digital instrument cluster. A textile covering the seats, a robust three-spoke steering wheel, and an abundance of black plastic components are also present.

Not only that, but there are two USB ports on the front and two on the back, in addition to a cooled wireless charging pad. With the back seats folded down, the new model's cargo capacity increases to 1,600 liters (56.5 cubic feet), but with them up, it drops to 460 liters (16.2 cubic feet). Owners may also divide the rear bench seat 60:40. Stellantis' Smart Car architecture is an advancement of the CMP/eCMP platform, and it will be used by a number of new vehicles, including the Opel Frontera.

It will be offered with both 48-volt mild-hybrid ICE and entirely electric powertrains, as previously announced. Stellantis hasn't revealed specifics, but it is possible the electric vehicle will have a single front-mounted electric motor, while the base model will likely have a turbocharged 1.2-liter mild-hybrid gasoline engine. As the new Frontera prepares to hit the market in the summer of 2024, we will have more information to share.
