The Genesis G90: Elegance and Muscle Under the Largest Clamshell Hood Yet

Luxury sedan enthusiasts may not typically boast about their vehicles as much as hypercar owners do, but Genesis is changing the conversation with their latest G90. This sedan features the largest clamshell hood in current global mass automotive production, according to the esteemed Korean brand.

This remarkable clamshell hood, a striking design choice by Genesis, spans a vast 4,030 square inches – imagine the area covered by 45 sheets of A4 paper or 450 sticky notes. Stretching elegantly from the grille to the windshield's base and encompassing the front fenders, the hood's design aims for a seamless appearance with reduced panel gaps.

However, the impressive size of the G90's aluminum hood presented its own set of challenges during development. Genesis engineers contended with potential thermal deformation following the painting process, which could result in undesirable gaps.

To counter this, the team introduced a C-shaped outer rail and beefed-up hinges for increased structural integrity, a move that underscored their commitment to both form and function – a true nod to Machiavelli's principle that "the ends justify the means."

Luc Donckerwolke, the Chief Creative Officer at Genesis, asserts that the G90 stands out in a sea of monotonous sedans. Its design, reminiscent of a Gran Turismo, is characterized by elegance, muscularity, and advanced features like the ultra-thin quad lamps equipped with Micro Lens Array technology, not to mention the iconic aluminum clamshell bonnet.

Genesis G90

The G90 has already captivated audiences beyond its native Korea and North America, with availability extending to Germany and Switzerland. The Genesis G90 isn't just a car – it's a statement, boldly declaring that luxury and cutting-edge design can go hand-in-hand.
