The Freightliner Inspiration opens the first way towards autonomous trucks! (VIDEO)

The Americans got another premiere! Daimler AG Daimler Trucks & Buses recently introduced the first autonomous truck, which has received the necessary permits to be used on public roads.

This is the new Freightliner Inspiration.

The truck is equipped with the latest technologies that allow the driver to leave the care of artificial intelligence function to drive on highways. Being armed with cameras and digital camcorders, Freightliner Inspiration can provide a comfortable and safe riding for long distances.

The technology called HWP, Highway Pilot System, has a limited number of functions now, so that the driver can always take control when desired or in situations when the truck "asked for it". Its main role is to significantly reduce the residence time, required for driver's break, delivery time to the destination of goods, the one to reduce carbon emissions into the atmosphere, and increase the efficiency of the motors. Autonomous systems will be improved and thus in the very near future, it will serve as a starting point for fully autonomous trucks.
